CLBC welcomes two new Board members

newboardmembers-pageCLBC is pleased to welcome Mr. Daniel (Dan) P. Smith and Ms. Barbara Carle-Thiesson as new members to its Board of Directors.

“A strong board is comprised of people who bring diverse perspectives and strong skills,” said Board Chair Tom Christensen. “I am happy to welcome our new members, and I am grateful for their interest in making a difference for the individuals and families we serve.”

Dan Smith is a citizen of the Laich Kwil Tach Nation and member of the Campbell River Indian Band, Vancouver Island, BC and former Chief Negotiator of the Hamatla Treaty Society (6 First Nations). He has served in federal public service in a range of roles for Canada Employment and Immigration, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada. He has also been Vice President for the Native Council of Canada, President of the United Native Nations, Tribal Manager for the Wuikinuxv Nation, Political Executive for the First Nations Summit and Commissioner for the BC Treaty Commission.

Barbara Carle-Thlesson is a Chartered Accountant (CA) in Nanaimo. Since 2012, Ms. Carle-Thiesson has been a Partner at MNP LLP Chartered Accountants. Prior to joining MNP, she was a partner at Tyce Carle-Thiesson Chartered Accountants (2002-2012) and Purtzki Carle-Thiesson Chartered Accountants (1991-2002) in Nanaimo. From 1981-1991, she practised as a sole practitioner in Grand Prairie, Alberta.
