Quality of Life Framework

As a home sharing provider, it is important that you know about Dr. Robert Schalock’s Quality of Life framework. Your contract requires you to align the delivery of services you provide to further the achievement of quality of life outcomes for the individual you support. Schalock is a professor of psychology who has worked in the field of intellectual disabilities for 40 years. He is widely published and speaks around the world on this topic.

In the framework, quality of life is represented by eight domains. The domains indicate an individual’s quality of life in three broad areas:

  • Independence
  • Social participation
  • Well-being

The Quality of Life framework fits well with CLBC’s overall vision of good lives in welcoming communities. It applies equally to all people—whether they have disabilities or not.

The table below shows the relationship between the three factors, eight domains, and associated indicators.
