Creation of CLBC advisory committee
VANCOUVER – Community Living BC is committed to increasing community involvement in the work and development of CLBC, as stated in its three-year Strategic Plan. As part of that commitment, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the Terms of Reference for the CLBC Advisory Committee have recently been approved. The Board will be accepting applications for membership to the ten-member committee which will be comprised of five self-advocates and five family members from across BC.

$300,000 Innovations funding to support young adults in communities
VANCOUVER – A vital component of CLBC’s commitment to community development and the move to more creative and responsive services for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families is the support of innovative responses from community. To support CLBC's innovation goals, $300,000 has been set aside for fiscal year 2006 to enable community partners to identify new ways to support young adults with developmental disabilities who have left school within the last three years. The funds will be awarded to those innovative projects that encourage employment opportunities or engage in meaningful community activities.

Grants support choice, access and opportunity
VANCOUVER – BC families of children with special needs and individuals with developmental disabilities will benefit from $40 million in grants, Children and Family Development Minister Stan Hagen announced today. Two funds, being managed provincewide by Vancouver Foundation, will help families buy equipment, convert vehicles and renovate homes so loved ones may remain at home and gain greater access to their communities.

VANCOUVER – To ensure continuity of services and minimize change for families, Community Living BC (CLBC) will continue providing services to children and youth with special needs through the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2005 between CLBC and the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).
