The Provincial Assessment Centre (PAC) is mandated to provide multi-disciplinary mental health services for referred individuals ages 14 and up with a developmental disability and a concurrent mental illness, or behaviour issue.
Designated as a tertiary care mental health service under the Mental Health Act, PAC is a part of the Crown agency, Community Living British Columbia.
We strive to avoid strategies that emphasize control and containment of behaviour. Using control strategies can undermine potential for maintaining positive supports and perpetuate power struggles that inevitably fail in helping to develop a sense of personal responsibility. Instead, we use empathy and constructive resolution of conflict to strengthen relationships and promote healthy development.
The centre provides the following services:
| • |
Community consultation and planning for individual's referred to PAC |
| • |
Community, family, and caregiver education and training |
| • |
Diagnosis |
| • |
In-patient assessment and treatment |
| • |
Medical and psychiatric assessment |
PAC does not provide:
| • |
Emergency admissions / Placement / Containment |
Considerations Prior to initiating a referral to PAC:
| • |
An in-patient referral should be initiated only when all measures have been taken in the local community to assist the individual |
| • |
A CLBC Facilitator or Analyst must be involved |
| • |
A Personal Support Plan (PSP) must be in place |
| • |
PAC’s Facilitator must be contacted for referral guidance before the Referral Package is completed. Please contact PAC Facilitator Brian Roberts via brian.r.roberts@gov.bc.ca |
| • |
Individual’s eligibility must be confirmed |
| • |
Please note that resourcing issues will not be considered as a reason for an extention of stay |
