Provincial Assessment Centre
The Provincial Assessment Centre (PAC) is mandated to provide multi-disciplinary mental health services for referred individuals ages 14 and up with a developmental disability and a concurrent mental illness, or behaviour issue.

Designated as a tertiary care mental health service under the Mental Health Act, PAC is a part of the Crown agency, Community Living British Columbia.

The assessment includes the following:
Community visit by the Community Liaison Nurse prior to admission to observe, interact with the individual in their home and to provide a familiar face upon admission
In-patient assessment and treatment
Transition planning and plan implementation in collaboration with the Community Liaison Nurse upon discharge
Community, family, and caregiver education, with training and orientation to the behavioural plan

Diagnostic evaluation:
Psychiatric assessment including a review of medications
Psychological Assessment
Neurodevelopmental and genetic assessment
Full medical assessment
Pharmacy review

An in house behavioral plan is developed by the PAC staff as they work with the individuals.  Recommendations will be formulated through this plan for community implementation

Functional assessment by an Occupational Therapist

Art and Music Therapy assessment

Dietary assessment

Sexuality assessment when indicated


PAC does not provide:
Emergency admissions / Placement / Containment

Considerations Prior to initiating a referral to PAC:

An in-patient referral should be initiated only when all measures have been taken in the local community to assist the individual
A CLBC Facilitator or Analyst must be involved
A Personal Support Plan (PSP) must be in place
PAC’s Facilitator must be contacted for referral guidance before the Referral Package is completed. Please contact PAC Facilitator Brian Roberts via brian.r.roberts@gov.bc.ca
Individual’s eligibility must be confirmed
Please note that resourcing issues will not be considered as a reason for an extention of stay
