Andrea Baker, Project Manager of include Me!, provides an introduction to a series of videos that CLBC has created to describe CLBC’s view of quality of life and its approach to personal outcome measurement. The first 3 videos were created at the conclusion of the demonstration project in May 2011 and the other 6 videos were produced just prior to the official launch of include Me! in May, 2012. What is quality of life?

Dr. Schalock discusses the concept of quality of life and provides an overview of the three factors, eight key domains, and how the concept was developed.

Begin with the end in mind

Dr. Schalock emphasizes the importance of beginning by identifying the outcomes that are desired. He suggests that, only then should we begin considering the processes and strategies that are needed to achieve those outcomes.

Aligning the system

Dr. Schalock talks about the need to align the various elements of the service delivery system (e.g. individual planning, service delivery, monitoring, and program evaluation) in order to achieve a truly integrated system that is responsive to the needs of individuals and families.
