| On October 30 - 31, 2007, two one-day workshops helped service providers train coaches to support their efforts to provide effective person-centred planning to adults with developmental disabilities and children and youth with special needs.
Coaches can help in the process of moving people from a life where services are the focus to a community life where people are happy, safe and have friends and meaningful activities and community connections.
The workshops, led by Michael Smull, brought closure to a joint project between CLBC and 21 community partners known as From Good To Great (FGTG). FGTG was launched with a June, 2005 conference in Vernon that explored the meaning of person-centred thinking. The project's goals were to help agencies to:
- Develop person-centred thinking and planning skills
- Create successful person-centre plans
- Identify needed training materials
- Share information
FGTG participants had regular conference calls to explore ways to address practical issues and share what they learned. Project achievements included a survey that gave a snapshot of how planning support is provided in the 21 agencies. A workbook and CD to assist individuals, families and providers to develop successful plans will be released later in 2008.
