Highlights of recent and upcoming work

We’ve put together a short summary of some of recent highlights and upcoming items we’re working on. These include: increased involvement by our self-advocate members, skill development opportunities, the spring dance (that was attended by 120 people!), sponsorship of an online radio episode, and recruitment of new members.

  • A highlight of the year for the Kootenay Community Council has been its recruitment. Having added 4 new voting members to our table, a new Chairperson and a CLBC Rep, our council has been able to share new skills, experiences and look forward to putting new goals into action.
  • The Council held a hugely successful spring dance on March 18, 2016. More than 120 people attended to enjoy a catered buffet dinner followed by dancing. The dance was held in Creston and people came from other communities such as Cranbrook and Trail to attend. The purpose of the dance was to celebrate the lives of people with diversabilities in our communities and to recruit for the Council.
  • The Council looks forward to some collaboration with other self-advocate groups in the Kootenay Region. The intention is to increase knowledge and understanding of our Community Council, while at the same time, look at topics of interests that would lead to alliances, presentations and community activities.
