On Tuesday, October 21, former Vancouver Canucks player and current CLBC board member David Babych dropped the puck to launch the sixth annual Surrey floor hockey tournament at the Guildford Recreational Centre. Sponsored by the City of Surrey, the Fraser Health Authority and CLBC, the event hosted four teams from around the Lower Mainland and Victoria.
The event was organized by CLBC facilitator Charles Partridge, who knew there were many CLBC supported individuals who wanted to play floor hockey. Teams are supported by the Chilliwack Society for Community Living, the Fraser Health Authority, the City of Surrey and BeConnected Support Services in Victoria. A special thanks goes to the Guildford Recreational Centre, which donates gym time.
Teams included the Guildford Gladiators, the Becon Trailblazers, the Surrey Sharks and the Chilliwack Knights. Before serious play began, everyone enjoyed meeting former NHLer David Babych, who generously gave his time to take pictures, shoot goals and talk to the players. Babych recently began a term as a member of CLBC’s board or directors.
