On behalf of CLBC, I am pleased to help recognize the 18th annual Community Living Month in our province. Started by individuals and family in Victoria, the idea of having a month to celebrate inclusion for people with developmental disabilities is now embraced in communities across the province.
Any celebration should begin with a moment of recognition and thanks. We are thankful for the many efforts of individuals, families, service providers, partners, community groups and municipalities to build welcoming communities.
And we join others in recognizing the significant contributions of individuals with diverse abilities to every community. Most of us are privileged to have friends, neighbours, work colleagues, and other community members who enrich our lives with their energy, talents and unique abilities.
Today CLBC serves more than 18,900 individuals across the province. B.C. communities are honouring them in many ways: inclusive employment events, open houses, community picnics, and art shows. You can find many of these events on our CLBC events calendar.
CLBC will also open nominations for our annual Widening our World (WOW) award on October 17. If you know an employer, support worker, agency, community group or volunteer who is making a difference, please nominate them. You can see last year’s nominees and winners here.
Enjoy the month!
