What is a Person Centred Society?

If you’ve completed your planning with CLBC and been approved for CLBC funding, you have the option to use a Person Centred Society (PCS) to manage your funding and services.

A PCS is small group of people who come together to form a non-profit organization to help you with planning, decisions and support. Some PCSs will contract with CLBC to manage your services. This option provides an alternative to accessing supports through other CLBC-funded service providers.

When a PCS manages CLBC funding and organizes services for you, they can assist you by:

  • helping you plan for the future
  • talking about what you want and need
  • managing the money that pays for your services
  • hiring and supervising the people who help you
  • connecting you to your community
  • making sure your services are safe and working well

A PCS gives you the tools and support you need to thrive, surrounded by people who believe in you.

You can also learn more about another flexible, self-directed option called Individualized Funding (IF) here.

How to get started

If you’re supported by a Person Centred Society and would like them to work with CLBC to manage your funding and services, then you should talk to your CLBC Facilitator. They’ll explain different funding and service options, to help you decide if a PCS contract is the right fit for you.

Your Facilitator will provide you with information about the Person Centred Societies Policy and Contracting Framework, review the Application for the Delivery of Services through a Person Centred Society with you, and guide you through the next steps.

If you’re under 19 years old and working with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) to plan future services with CLBC, ask your MCFD worker about ways you can get support.
