Special Message from Seonag Macrae: CLBC celebrates Community Living Month

DSC_0869This October I am thrilled to help our province celebrate the 17th annual Community Living Month. On behalf of staff across Community Living BC, I want to honour the individuals we serve. This is a month to recognize the important contributions they make in every community across our beautiful province.

10th-Anniversary-Badge-CLBC-websiteThis year also marks the 10th anniversary of the creation of Community Living BC. This milestone makes the month extra special. It is a time to express deep gratitude to individuals, families, service providers and countless community groups for your dedication to creating welcoming communities.

Take a moment to read the announcement by the Province of B.C. and a special commentary in the Vancouver Sun from the Hon. Michelle Stilwell, Minister of Social Development and Social Innovation, and CLBC Board Chair Tom Christensen.

CLBC serves more than 18,000 adults with developmental disabilities. Throughout the month, B.C. communities are holding events to honour their accomplishments. Events include youth transition fairs, inclusive employment awards, cultural and sport events, BBQs and community fairs. You can find many of them on the CLBC events calendar.

CLBC will also soon open nominations for its seventh annual WOW!clbc awards, which allow you to recognize someone who is going above and beyond to build inclusive communities. If you know an employer, support worker, agency, community group or volunteer who is making a difference, please nominate them. Forms will be available by mid-October here.

Let the celebrations begin,

Seonag Macrae
CEO, Community Living BC
