Legislation passed for easier access to disability assistance

On Wednesday, April 6, legislation introduced by Social Development and Social Innovation Minister Michelle Stilwell was passed to make it easier for some people with disabilities to receive disability assistance. This includes many youth transitioning into CLBC Services.

The legislation was introduced on February 11, and gives government the ability to prescribe groups of people as Persons with Disabilities (PWD). This would mean less paper work as these people would not have to complete a 28-page application or additional assessments by medical practitioners.

To start, this new legislation will benefit about 1,000 people each year, most of whom will be youth transitioning into CLBC services.
