Community Living BC (CLBC) is pleased with the commitment made to individuals with developmental disabilities in the B.C. government’s 2022 budget. Budget 2022 includes an additional $42.7 million in provincial funding for CLBC, contributing to a total operating budget of $1.36 billion in 2022/23.

“CLBC works closely with the government to respond to the needs of individuals and families,” said CLBC CEO Ross Chilton. “This year’s budget will help us continue existing supports, provide new services to young adults who are turning 19 and undertake initiatives to improve services.”

CLBC funds and monitors services for adults with developmental disabilities and individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder or Autism Spectrum Disorder who need significant help with daily tasks. Each year about 1,200 new people become eligible for services. The number of people eligible for CLBC services have grown from 12,735 in 2010 to an expected 25,695 as of March 31, 2022.

You can learn what services are available on the CLBC web site here. You can also learn about requesting a service, assessment tools and how CLBC makes funding decisions here.

This year CLBC will work with partners to help people stay safe and supported through the next stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. CLBC will continue a range of initiatives to strengthen its home sharing service. It will also continue work to improve services to Indigenous Peoples and increase inclusive employment and access to affordable housing. These efforts and others are part of CLBC’s new strategic plan that will be launched this spring.

“Over the past year CLBC has had many consultations with individuals, families and service providers, as well as Indigenous stakeholders to create our next strategic plan,” said Chilton. “We expect to launch this plan soon with a new vision, mission and goals to help people be better connected and included in their communities.

CLBC’s new strategic plan will support the priorities in the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction’s Reimagining Community Inclusion workplan which will be released soon.
