In January, Community Living BC welcomed four new members appointed to the CLBC Board of Directors. Board members provide oversite and guidance on how CLBC does its work. This includes responsibilities like approving the strategic plan and making sure the services and supports provided by CLBC make a difference for the people we serve.

“I look forward to working with the incoming board members. Their expertise and experience will play an important role in helping to guide CLBC over the coming years and I thank them for taking on this new role,” said Shane Simpson, CLBC Board Chair.

The four new board members are:

  • Angus Monaghan, an experienced clinician and executive leader;
  • Tanya Rothe, who has spent her career as a general counsel and executive in the technology industry;
  • Kim Stacey, who has extensive experience in the non-profit housing sector; and
  • Diane Sugars, an executive director to several organizations throughout her career.

The new board members were appointed at the beginning of January 2025, by Sheila Malcolmson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, for a term of up to three years.

CLBC would also like to thank departing board members Marnie Larson, Julia Payson, Simon Philp and Patti Sullivan. Serving on the board from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2024, they have each made valuable contributions to the work CLBC does for people with developmental disabilities throughout B.C.:

  • Marnie contributed her extensive knowledge of Information Technology (IT) and human resource management while on the CLBC Board. She most recently served on the Governance and Human Resources Committee where her experience helped the organization develop its People Strategy.
  • Julia’s experience working with vulnerable populations and with both government and community organizations has provided a great deal of insight to the CLBC Board as the organization partners with other ministries and with service providers. Over her two terms, she served on several committees, most recently as Chair of the Service Quality and Performance Committee.
  • Simon’s impressive financial background and his experience as the father of a CLBC-eligible daughter brought a unique contribution to the CLBC Board, merging business acumen with the lived experience of families. Simon was most recently the Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee and was also a Board Liaison to CLBC’s Provincial Advisory Committee (PAC).
  • Patti’s deep experience in social services and community development benefited the Board at multiple levels. A systems thinker, Patti’s questions and suggestions contributed to a more strategic orientation. Patti served on several committees during her tenure, most recently as a member of the Finance and Audit Committee.
