Call for Applications: Self-Advocate Co-Chair – RCI Steering Committee
Community Living BC (CLBC) is inviting people with a developmental disability from across the province to apply for the role of Co-Chair on the Re-Imagining Community Inclusion (RCI) Steering Committee.
This leadership opportunity is for someone with lived experience accessing CLBC support and who wants to help shape a more inclusive future for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities in B.C.
The application deadline is July 17, 2026.
Meeting Details
- Two meeting per year – one in September and one in March
- Online
- 1.5 hours each meeting
- Additional meeting preparation or follow‑up may happen as needed
- Honorarium provided to participate in meetings
A CLBC team supports the Co‑Chairs with planning, facilitation, and meeting materials.
What We Are Looking for in a Self‑Advocate Co‑Chair
We encourage applications from people who:
- Want to make BC more inclusive for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities
- Have lived experience with developmental disability and accessing CLBC services
- Can work respectfully with different partners
- Are comfortable sharing ideas and speaking up in a group
- Have experience giving feedback on issues like inclusive housing, employment, health, and self-directed Indigenous services
- Have experience serving on an advisory committee, council, or board, where you provide input on issues that are important to you.
About Re Imagining Community Inclusion (RCI)
Re-imagining Community Inclusion (RCI) is a 10-year initiative started in 2018 by the B.C. government and community partners to improve the lives of people labeled with a developmental disability. It is grounded in the belief that people should have the same opportunities as everyone else to live a good life of their choosing.
RCI focuses on what services should look like in the future, how to get there, and how we can work together. The work is guided by lived experience and community input.
What the Steering Committee Does
The Steering Committee helps guide and advance the RCI vision by:
- Setting priorities and goals
- Working with partners across government and the community
- Creating working groups as needed
- Help move important work forward and keep things on track
Our Main Areas of Focus
The Committee is focused on four areas:
- Housing
- Employment
- Health
- Self-directed services for Indigenous people
Who is Involved
Members include people with lived experience, families, Indigenous organizations, service providers, advocacy groups, and government partners. They bring their perspectives to help shape the work.
How We Work
The Committee is guided by shared values, including:
- Respectful, plain language communication
- Listening to lived experience
- Respecting Indigenous communities and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA)
- Respecting the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD)
- Working together to find solutions
- Using evidence to guide decisions
- Respecting confidentiality
- Aiming for real, meaningful results
