Province invests in CLBC-funded services in its 2025 Budget

The province has increased CLBC’s budget for the 2025/26 fiscal year by $127 million for caseload service provision, along with $10 million for the Shared Recovery Mandate, bringing the total budget for CLBC to $1.8 billion. The increase in funding of $127 million will help address CLBC’s caseload growth, the 1,200 people expected to newly become eligible for CLBC in 2025/26 and the increase in requested services. The number of people who receive CLBC-funded supports has grown by about 25% over the last five years.

“Within the challenging economic environment, I’m very grateful government is continuing to increase funding for services to individuals and families,” says CLBC CEO Ross Chilton. “The additional $127 million is earmarked to maintain ongoing services for those who newly started with CLBC in this current fiscal year, and to help fund services for the expected 1,200 new people who will be coming to CLBC in the upcoming fiscal year. Additionally, we hope to use some of that money to help people currently on a list with us, waiting for services.”

CLBC is forecasting to spend over 93%, or $1.73 billion, of its 2025/26 projected total budget on services that support the quality of life for CLBC eligible individuals.

Each year, CLBC completes a comprehensive, province-wide service demand assessment that helps to inform its funding decisions for the year.

“As a Crown agency, our budget process can be complex,” says Chilton. “I am committed to being as clear and transparent as we can be about how CLBC will be spending the new money in its budget and what that might mean for families waiting for services.”

Through Budget 2025, CLBC will be receiving an additional $380 million over three years to meet growing caseload demand. The figure of $127 million is specific to the 2025/26 fiscal year.

Q&A – Information for Individuals and Families about funding requests

Once CLBC has the new budget, when will I know if my request for service has been funded?

  • Once CLBC learns of its overall approved budget for the year, staff in each region work as quickly as possible to finalize the plan for services it can fund this year.
  • CLBC goes through a careful budget management process, and this can take several weeks. This includes completing an assessment of all services being requested, reviewing available funding, and allocating funding so people with the most urgent needs receive supports first.
  • We will keep families informed as soon as possible about our ability to meet their requests.
