Community Living BC releases 2022 to 2025 Strategic Plan

Community Living BC (CLBC) is releasing its 2022 to 2025 Strategic Plan, which maps out how we will work with individuals, families, and partners to achieve a vision for “Communities of belonging and lives with connection.” The plan outlines four goals:

  1. We have trusting relationships with the people we serve
  2. Our actions align with the rights of Indigenous peoples
  3. We invest in and value our sector partners
  4. Our actions advance inclusion and accessibility in community

The plan was developed after consulting with more than 500 people including those we serve, service provider staff, community members, and other partners.

“This plan outlines a fresh vision and values,” says Board Chair Michael J. Prince. “In the work we do to plan with individuals and families, and collaborate with service providers, we will aspire to be kind, respectful, accountable, helpful and culturally safe.”

“We are grateful to all who helped us create our plan, which is meant to inspire people about our future,” says CEO Ross Chilton, “This Plan is not only about better services, it’s about better lives. We hope it will strengthen how we work together to create better lives.”

The new plan outlines a range of activities to support the goals, including:

  • Making CLBC processes easier to use and more transparent
  • Supporting and training staff to serve Indigenous people in culturally safe ways
  • Investing in the leadership of people with developmental disabilities and their families
  • Working with our partners to build awareness for inclusion in our province

CLBC is committed to continuing to build relationships in our communities and to hear from more diverse voices as we set out to accomplish the goals in this plan. Every year, CLBC will share how we’re adapting to what we’ve heard from the people we serve, what progress we’ve made and the impact of the work we’re doing.

The plan takes effect in July 2022. It works in tandem with CLBC’s Service Plans and the Re-Imagining Community Inclusion project from the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. CLBC is finalizing its specific priorities for the first year of implementation.
