CLBC acknowledges our Indigenous Relations team staff, Indigenous Advisory Committee members, and Elders Advisory Committee members for their invaluable guidance in shaping CLBC and supporting our work towards reconciliation with Indigenous communities.
We also recognize our First Nations, Métis and Inuit staff for being a part of our organization and bringing their creativity, knowledge, gifts and talent into our offices every day.
Actions towards reconciliation
Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. Here are some of the actions that CLBC has taken in the past year to strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities:
- In September 2023, CLBC signed a collaboration agreement, The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), with Secwépemc Child & Family Services Agency (SCFSA) to improve access to CLBC funded services for Indigenous communities, while maintaining connection to culture, community, and family. Read more about the Memorandum of Understanding here.
- CLBC’s Indigenous Relations team has been working with the Indigenous Perspective Society to provide Indigenous Cultural Perspectives training to all CLBC staff. The training roll out began in October 2023 and will be completed in Spring 2026.
- Since 2023, CLBC has been hosting land acknowledgement ceremonies in CLBC offices across the province through our Built Space project, to foster a culture of respect, inclusivity and genuine engagement with Indigenous communities. Read about a recent land acknowledgement ceremony in Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en territory.
- CLBC has strengthened relationships with the urban Indigenous Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Sector and established engagement with over 50 Indigenous Nations, agencies, organizations and leadership groups across the province.
- CLBC consults with the Indigenous Advisory Committee and Elders Advisory Committee on various topics to guide how we develop and strengthen relationships with Indigenous people, families, supporters, communities and partners.
