Lived experience lens helps make CLBC policies stronger

The logo of BC People First appears next to the phrase "Nothing about us without us."A key goal in CLBC’s strategic plan is to invest in and advance self-advocate leadership. In support of this goal, we are proud to announce a new partnership between CLBC’s Policy team and BC People First (BCPF) that ensures the lived experience and expertise of those we serve are part of the policy development process.

The purpose of the group is to work together to:

  1. Make CLBC policies stronger by having people with lived experience be part of the policy-making process.
  2. Help people with lived experience build skills to understand government systems and learn ways to have a voice in these systems.

The CLBC and BC People First Policy Working Group will meet four to six times per year. They will review and develop key policies that directly impact the lives of people eligible for CLBC services.

BCPF is a non-profit provincial organization that is part of the international People First movement. BCPF has been the independent voice of self-advocates in B.C. for more than 40 years. They work to make sure people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are included and respected in our communities as full citizens.

For anyone who has a developmental disability and is interested in self-advocate leadership, you can connect with BCPF by visiting www.bcpeoplefirst.com or by emailing BCPF Coordinator Roxci Bevis at coordinator@bcpeoplefirst.com.
