CLBC’s Accessibility Second Year Progress Report highlights new plain language infographics

Community Living BC (CLBC) is excited to announce the release of the second year CLBC Accessibility Progress Report, written and designed in Easy Read format. This report provides details our progress towards our Five Areas of Action from our Accessibility Plan:

  1. Relationships make all the difference
  2. Clear, timely communication is key
  3. Information needs to be shared in many ways
  4. Welcoming physical spaces
  5. Accessible employment is necessary

Thank you to both the CLBC Accessibility Committee and Staff Working Group for their guidance and support in this second year of putting the Accessibility Plan in to action.

About CLBC’s Accessibility Plan

The Accessible British Columbia Act (2021) requires all government organizations, including CLBC, to identify, remove, and prevent barriers to accessibility for people with disabilities.

CLBC’s Accessibility Plan outlines actionable steps to address and prevent barriers over a three-year period (2023-2026), in collaboration with the CLBC Accessibility Committee who plays a key role in advising on actions, reviewing feedback, and helping us measure progress. You can learn more about Accessibility at CLBC on our website here.

Introducing new plain language infographics

Our second-year report highlights the exciting launch of new, plain language infographics, designed to help individuals and families understand what to expect when requesting support from CLBC.

The infographics were requested by and created in partnership with CLBC’s Accessibility Advisory Committee. They were developed through a user-driven design process, that incorporated feedback from parents of individuals transitioning to CLBC services, self-advocates who use CLBC services and CLBC facilitators who guide families through processes.

Share your accessibility feedback with CLBC

CLBC’s accessibility work is informed and guided by the feedback we gather from people we serve, our employees, partners and our broader community. This feedback helps us to better understand barriers that people with disabilities face when interacting with us.

This can include barriers faced when:

  • getting information from CLBC
  • visiting CLBC offices
  • talking with CLBC staff
  • working at CLBC

You can find information about how to share your feedback, request an alternate format, or ask for an explanation of information on our website here.

While our commitment to and work towards improving accessibility at CLBC is ongoing, we are proud of the steps we have taken in the first and second years of our plan. We look forward to strengthening accessibility at CLBC over the next year and beyond!
